On Sunday, August 14, 2022, Nick drove his first race with this beautiful ex Tim Johnson Rudge Special from 1934. It took Nick some time to get used to, but halfway through the training it was already going quite well with the steering. Unfortunately Nick couldn't finish the training in the morning because he had lost a bolt from the shift rod to the gearbox and the bike was stuck in 2nd gear. Fortunately, we quickly found this problem and were able to solve it easily with a bolt that we had brought with us in the toolbox.

The first race went pretty well despite the heat that day (35 degrees). At the back of the circuit, a part is paved instead of asphalt, so the road surface was pretty bad for this motorcycle with little to no suspension, but that didn't spoil the fun of course It's just take it easy on the paved part and then on the asphalt he could give some throttle again. Nick also found out quickly enough that the drip tray that goes under the engine and gearbox was too wide and too low to the ground so it sometimes hit the ground in a bend.

The second race went better than the first, Nick got faster and faster and started to get to know the bike just like the track. That was also noticeable because you noticed along the sidelines that the laps were getting faster and faster.

In the end Nick became 6th of the 8 participants in his class. At the HMV there is no racing but demo driving. This selects the result on who has completed the laps most consistently and it is not about who crosses the finish line first.

Below are a few more photos from the race.
