On Sunday, September 10, 2023, Nick drove his third race of the season at the HMV with this beautiful Rudge Special racer from 1934.
The track in Schoonhoven was in good condition again this year. It was very hot that day so the asphalt was at a good temperature.
Nick drove to Schoonhoven early on Sunday morning so that he was on time for the registration and inspection of the motorcycles for the event.
During the training the engine ran well and Nick was able to explore the track again. Nick soon got the hang of this track again and was soon able to maintain a good pace while he had to avoid the manhole covers that were in some places. the circuit is on the ideal line.
The first race went well, he started on the front row at the starting position and remained in the lead throughout the race and met the rear riders again after the 3rd lap. The Rudge ran great and Nick already had a good taste of this track.
The second race also went fantastic. Just like in the first race, Nick started at the front of the starting row and soon managed to be first again and during the 3rd lap he found himself behind a Gilera with which he had a good battle with each other. Because the Gilera was quite a few years younger, the brakes of the Gilera were better, but out of the bends and on the straights, Nick on his Rudge quickly came closer to the Gilera, but because of the brakes Nick had to brake earlier every time, which meant that before the bend Another gap opened up between the Gilera and the Rudge, meaning Nick could not overtake the Gilera on the short track with many bends. For the time being, Nick has been able to put up a nice battle with the Gilera and the audience has been able to enjoy it on the sidelines.
Ultimately, Nick finished 4th in his class.
At the HMV there is no racing but demo driving. As a result, the result is selected on who has driven the laps most consistently and it is not about who crosses the finish line first.
